A series of guided bike rides have been organised across South Ribble, with the aim of getting more people involved in cycling.

Organised by South Ribble Council and British Cycling, the Sky Ride Local programme starts in June and rides will run on Sundays through to the end of September.

The Mayor of South Ribble, Coun Graham Walton, has backed the programme of rides and has urged residents to sign up for an event close to them.

He said: “I am delighted that we’ll be hosting the bike rides across South Ribble for a second year and I hope that lots of people get involved.”

Rides are between six and 20 miles long and are graded according to their level of difficulty.

Most rides are family friendly, and for youngsters under the age of five they don’t need to be registered, but must be in a BSA approved child seat, trailer or tag-a-long.

The first event will be on Sunday, June 1 at 2pm. Starting from Bamber Bridge Tennis Centre the seven mile route will take in some of South Ribble’s best scenery and is suitable for all ages.

All of the rides are free of charge and are grouped in levels to suit everyone from beginners to experienced cyclists. Each ride will be led by British Cycling Ride Leaders.

Upcoming ride dates in South Ribble are:

June 15 – Cuerden Valley Park
