Living off turkey and asparagus, six times a day for two weeks, may not be appealing to most.

But for apprentice toolmaker, Liam Finney, that is exactly what he had to do to compete at the Miami Pro fitness model show in Watford.

I did get a few funny looks from people when I was just sat there in the pub with a pint of water and eating my food out of a plastic container,

The 19-year-old from West Paddock, Leyland, lost 57 pounds in 20 weeks, even taking his own food out in a tupperware container to avoid temptation at a friend’s birthday.

“I did get a few funny looks from people when I was just sat there in the pub with a pint of water and eating my food out of a plastic container,” said Liam, who now hopes to inspire others to get in shape and change their lives.

“For the full 20 weeks I only had two cheat meals – Christmas dinner and a nine-inch pizza on my birthday.”

Liam drafted in the help of Ryan Cartwright, of Team Muscle Hype, a friend of 15 years, to help him on his fitness journey.

“I asked Ryan to help me to lose weight initially and then I read about the competition and decided to have that as an end goal, so to speak,” said Liam.

“He sorted out my nutrition and which had to be on point.

“At first I found it quite easy because I was still eating quite a lot of food but, for the final two weeks before the competition,

“I had to cut down to just 1,000 calories – that was pretty hard.”

To get his body into tip-top shape, Liam, who had never done anything similar before, would spend an hour working on his cardio before breakfast, then work a full day before another hour of cardio, an hour of weight training and 30 minutes HIIT work.

And although he didn’t quite make the top four finalist, Liam is proud of his achievement.

“For me to be so overweight and unhealthy and to then get up on stage in front of all those other people was a big thing for me,” he said.

“When I set up my Facebook page, loads of people sent me messages asking for my advice and saying how well I’d done.”
