A new chairman for the Leyland My Neighbourhood Forum has been appointed – as the previous one has reluctantly been forced to step down.

Coun Jane Bell has been chosen by the Labour group to front the forum, as Coun Matthew Tomlinson is no longer allowed to take on the role.

He has been elected as a county councillor for Leyland Central, and the My Neighbourhood Forum constitution rules that a county councillor cannot be the chairman.

He said: “I am disappointed; I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as the chairman.

“We’ve achieved a lot and there are some exciting things in the pipeline.

“Jane will be a great ambassador for the town; she knows Leyland inside out.”

Coun Bell, who represents the Earnshaw Bridge ward as a Labour councillor, said: “I am delighted that my fellow councillors have trusted me with this responsibility, and I will endeavour to continue Matthew’s good work.”

“People who know me well know that I am a politician, but I am not political. I want members of the forum to put aside their political differences and work together as a team for the people of Leyland.”

She added: “I am interested in the projects to provide activities for young people, and I am looking forward to the Leyland Festival and Leyland Live, on the back of Penwortham Live’s recent success.”
