A fun Ladies Night is being organised in memory of a Leyland bride who died just days after getting married.

Mum-of-three Paula Garside, 38, was looking forward to attending the event later this month, but sadly died from cancer a week after her Valentine’s Day wedding.

“Paula would definitely want everyone to have a good time; she didn’t like people being sad”

Family friend Sophie Wilding

Family friend Sophie Wilding, who runs Afrodite82 salon in Hough Lane, said: “Paula got her head shaved to raise money for the Macmillan nurses who were caring for her last year, and after that, she wanted to do more to help the charity.

“So we organised a Ladies Night and it raised about £750.

“And when Manchester-based charity Gift of a Wedding got on board to organise and fund her wedding, she said she wanted to do an event for that charity too, so we started talking about doing another Ladies Night.

“We knew she was unwell, but we thought she would still be here for that, and she was really excited about it.

“Now it’s about doing it in her memory, and she would definitely want everyone to have a good time. She didn’t like people being sad.”

The over-18s event is planned for Saturday, March 21 at 7pm, at Leyland RAF Club on Golden Hill.

X Factor finalist Jon Jo Kerr will be singing, and there will also be a drag act and male strippers.

Tickets are £15 and can be bought from Afrodite82 or reserved by messaging the salon’s Facebook page.
