Leyland Band has taken part in the British Open Brass Band Championships staged at the prestigious Symphony Hall in Birmingham.
The contest involved 18 of the world’s best brass bands, and Leyland’s, playing Reflections on Swan Lake under musical director Thomas Wyss, walked away with fourth prize.
Band chairman, Chris Doran, said: “This is a great achievement for the band.
“Many of the bands we are up against receive big sponsorships to help them in their efforts, but we rely entirely on donations, support from our patrons and ticket sales from our concerts to pay for the running of the band and attending competitions.
“We are very proud of this, although we would love to hear from anyone interested in backing the band, whether it’s for a single concert or a full-time sponsorship.”
People can next hear the Leyland Band in action in their home town on Sunday, September 20, in a concert entitled ‘Music at the Museum’.
They will perform among a unique backdrop of the trucks and buses on display at the British Commercial Vehicle Museum in King Street, starting at 7pm.
Tickets are £15 and can be bought from calling 01772 451011 or visiting www.britishcommercialvehiclemuseum.com.
