A number of GP practices in Leyland are extending their opening hours to cater for evening and weekend appointments during winter.
Worden Medical Centre in West Paddock, Moss Side Medical Centre in Moss Side Way, Station Surgery on Golden Hill Lane, Leyland Surgery in West Paddock, and Central Park Surgery in Balfour Street have all signed up to offer extended opening hours between October 2014 and March 2015. Sandy Lane Surgery has extended its hours, but not to operate during evenings and weekends.
Nearby Buckshaw Village Surgery, Eccleston Health Centre, Euxton Medical Centre, Croston Village Surgery and Dr Hamad’s Surgery in Clayton-le-Woods are also on board.
Some practices will be staying open until 8pm during the week, and others will be offering appointments for Saturday and Sunday.
Jan Ledward, chief officer for the Chorley and South Ribble Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Patients have told us that during the busy winter months it can be difficult to get an appointment with their GP at a time that is suitable for them.
“These extended opening hours will offer patients and doctors greater flexibility.”
She added: “We also hope that by GPs offering extended opening hours that it will help to alleviate the pressure on other areas of the NHS during the busy winter period.”
The six Leyland surgeries are part of 50 across South Ribble, Chorley and Preston to take part in the scheme.
