Work on the first of four major road schemes, set to create more dual carriageways connecting Leyland to Preston, is set to be complete this month.
Work to widen the A582 South Ribble Western Distributor from the Flensburg Way ‘tank’ roundabout through Penwortham, was brought forward under the City Deal to reduce traffic congestion and prepare the road networks for future housing developments.
The first phase began in May at the junction with Chain House Lane to provide more lanes for traffic, to widen the approaches to the junction, and to make it easier for cyclists to use, with Toucan crossings to allow cyclists to cross alongside pedestrians.
Phil Wilson, Lancashire County Council’s project manager for the City Deal delivery team, said: “Work to improve the A582 is progressing well. The first part of this scheme is to improve the junction of Chain House Lane and we expect this to be open with traffic lights operational very soon.
“We’re also beginning work to resurface Golden Way between the Ribble Bridge and Hill Road.”
The stretch of road between Oaks Wood roundabout leading to the flyover, and the Broad Oak roundabout next to Booth’s supermarket, will be closed during the evening and overnight from 7pm to 7am between November 27 and December 11.
