A South Ribble man has pleaded guilty to failing to report his father’s death and taking more than £1,000 from his bank account.
Christopher Blackburn, 29, of Malthouse Way, Penwortham, appeared at Preston Crown Court on Monday, where he admitted preventing a lawful and decent burial of a dead body and theft.
On 22 March 2011 officers attended an address on Alderfield, Penwortham, after neighbours raised concerns. There they found the dead body of his 54-year-old dad, Guy, on a bed in the living room.
A post mortem revealed he had died from natural causes – probably several months earlier.
Det Insp Marc Nasser said: “This is an unusual case and it is the first of its type that we have dealt with in Lancashire.
“It was a challenging case and one that most members of the public will find appalling.”
Blackburn will be sentenced on March 12.
