Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to trace after a passenger threatened to assault a conductor on board a train.

British Transport Police say they believe the man can help their investigation.

Investigating officer PC Ryan Moore said: “The conductor approached a man during a routine ticket check.

“The man was travelling without a ticket and had no means to pay for one, so was asked by the conductor to leave the service at Buckshaw Parkway.

“As he left the service he became aggressive and threatened to assault the conductor.

“The conductor was simply doing his job and should not have to be subjected to threats of violence.

“BTP will not tolerate threatening behaviour or aggression of any kind towards passengers or railway staff and we will do everything possible to track down those who do and bring them to justice.”

Following extensive inquiries, officers have managed to isolate the CCTV image.

PC Moore added: “I believe this man may have vital information which could greatly assist our investigation.

“I am now calling on the public to please tell us who he is.”
