A manhunt is on for a prisoner who escaped while being transported from a Leyland prison.
At around 3.30pm on Wednesday police were alerted to an incident involving a prison van on the A59 in Burscough.
Four prisoners were being transported from Garth prison to different prisons in Merseyside when three of them escaped via the skylights in their individual cells.
Two of them were quickly detained however one remains outstanding.
He is John Paul Williams who is serving a life sentence for robbery. He is originally from the Longsight area of Manchester and is 35 years old.
He is wearing standard prison clothes.
Police are urging members of the public to report any sightings of him by calling 999 and they should not approach him.
