The next phase of work to widen a section of the A582 commuter route from Leyland to Preston into a dual-carriageway is due to begin after Easter.
Work will start to widen the southern section of Golden Way from Cop Lane to the Broad Oak roundabout in Penwortham, close to the Booths supermarket.
The project, part of the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal, will see the whole of the A582 route upgraded into a dual carriageway between Cuerden and Preston city centre.
It also includes the section of Flensburg Way towards Longmeanygate in Leyland.
A consultation was recently completed about widening the full length of the A582 from the M65 junction all the way into Preston, as well as the B5253 south to Longmeanygate.
The responses to the consultation are currently being reviewed and a report will be presented to the cabinet member at Lancashire County Council for consideration in the summer.
These proposals also include significant investment to improve cycling infrastructure, with a 3m-wide shared cycle and footway from Stanifield Lane in Farington to Broadoak Roundabout, with off-road facilities into Preston.
Work is also continuing on the Stanifield Lane roundabout to create extra lanes, cycle lanes and install traffic lights.
