Work is finally set to be completed transforming one of Leyland’s most notorious eyesores after years of problems.

Redevelopment of the former Shadh Takeaway on Chapel Brow is finally nearing completion five years after the site was forced to close, when a sewer collapsed in July 2009.

The owner of the building says the new takeaway, which will be called ‘Thindian Indian’ and will specialise in healthy meals, is set to open within four to six weeks.

Dawan Alom said: “There’s just the internal works left to do now. We’ve finally got there!

“I’m really happy with how things are going and we should be open within the next four to six weeks.”

The building was left derelict for three years before being partially demolished in 2012.

The site has been an ongoing concern to the council, nearby residents and businesses due to its appearance and after attracting anti-social behaviour.

Building work is now nearly complete on the street-level takeaway and first floor office space.

Coun Cliff Hughes, South Ribble Council’s cabinet member for strategic planning and housing, said he was “delighted” that the site is now to get a new lease of life.

He said: “This has been an issue for residents, shoppers and traders for quite some time, and I am delighted to finally see that building work is nearly complete.

“I’m grateful to local ward councillors past and present for their support in doing everything possible to bring this to a conclusion, as well as all of the interested parties who have worked with us.”

A member of staff of Rimmers Music, next door to the site, said: “It’s nice for the area that it’s finally getting finished and the shop is being fitted out, it’s been quite a while.”

Marketing material has been sent out to local businesses and houses stating that the building will soon be reopening as Thindian Indian takeaway specialising in healthy meals.
