A sponsored walk welcoming man’s best friend is returning this year with a new venue and a host of new attractions which St Catherine’s Hospice hopes will make the day ‘impawsible’ to turn down.

Bark in the Park, a 2.5 mile walk in aid of the Lostock Hall charity, takes place at Avenham Park in Preston on Saturday, September 19, from 10am until 4pm.

St Catherine’s is working with Preston Agility Dogs, Dogtastic and Preston City Council to host the event.

There will be a series of canine competitions and displays such as a sheepdog and shepherd performance, and agility and obedience shows to watch.

A breeders’ village will showcase specific breeds, and Pinewood Vets of Leyland and Chorley will be on hand providing free micro-chipping.

St Catherine’s will also be welcoming the Dogs Trust, Guidedogs for the Blind, and many more to offer their advice about any canine queries visitors may have on the day.

There will also be refreshments and a children’s fairground.

Ian Routh, one of the organisers, said: “We are encouraging people to bring their furry friends down to Avenham Park to celebrate all things dog, to either get involved in the sponsored walk, or to just enjoy a fun-filled day of doggy entertainment.

“Not only can people enjoy themselves and have a fantastic afternoon, they’ll also be supporting a very important local charity in St Catherine’s.

“Many families in Preston have had family members cared for by the hospice in one way or another and it’s a very important place to the people of Central Lancashire.”

The walk sets off at midday, and registration is £3. People are encouraged to raise as much money as possible in sponsorship. Visit www.
