When it comes to keeping active, Leyland’s older people are fighting fit!
And members of the Solid Gold over 50s group at Leyland Leisure Centre are looking for new members to join their ranks this January.
The group meets every Tuesday when they play badminton from 2pm to 3.30pm.
Margaret Hollinhurst, 78, who has been attending the group for 25 years since she retired as bursar at St Mary’s High School, said: “It’s a sociable group, we don’t play in any competitions, it’s just for fun.
“But we are getting short of members so we would love more people to join us.”
You don’t have to be a leisure centre member to join in, and all abilities are welcome.
Over 50s can also join in aerobics sessions from 1.15pm to 2.15pm, and swimming from 3.15pm to 3.45pm on Tuesdays – all for the single price of £3.20, including a cup of tea or coffee afterwards.
And on Thursdays, it’s indoor bowls from 1pm until 3.30pm.
Other general classes and activities available at Leyland Leisure Centre include aerobics, metafit, body balance, yoga, circuits and group cycling.
And for children, there’s a ‘junior gym’ designed for youngsters to exercise on specific equipment that gives them a safe and complete body workout.
There’s also junior squash and racketball activities, and swimming sessions.
