A list of venues set to take part in an upcoming music festival in South Ribble has now been revealed.

The brains behind last year’s two popular Leyland Live events, Nigel Stewart, is organising something similar for his hometown of Penwortham.

Penwortham Live is not limited to music performances though, with drama groups, magicians and comedians lined up to perform along with rock bands, choirs and jazz acts.

There will also be demonstrations by jewellery shops and food outlets, and so far there are 17 venues and over 130 appearances set for the two nights of Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13.

There will also be various other ‘fringe’ events including discos, talks, walks, and workshops around the Liverpool Road area.

Each venue will host four acts each night, with 7pm, 8pm, 9pm and 10pm slots.

Each performance will last for around 45 minutes with a 15-minute gap in between so people can move venue.

Wristbands will cost £5 each and will give access to all venues for both days, which stretches from Priory Lane to the Sir Tom Finney Pub in Central Drive.

Nigel said: “In Leyland, business owners told me they couldn’t keep up with demand, and it was a blast.

“I wanted to bring the idea to Penwortham because it’s a great place to live and there is already a lot of things going on, but I think we need more.

“We need to be supportive of local businesses because times are hard and it’s been a difficult period for them.

“I’m doing this as a volunteer to try to bring three communities together - the people of Penwortham, the artists, and the venues.”

The venues are: A Little Birdy Told Me Sew, Aphrodite Health Food Store, Cow Shed, Fleece Inn, Gymophobics, Penwortham Library, the Young People’s Centre, Salvatore’s Restaurant, Slice of Sicily, Snack & Chat, St Mary’s CE Church and Church Hall, St Teresa’s Parish Centre, Tom Finney Pub, United Reformed Church and the Church Hall, and Whittingham’s Cake Shop.

Nigel still needs acts to complete the line-up, particularly actors, magicians, comedians, and acoustic solo or duo acts, as well as volunteers who would like to help out in the venues.
