A person has died after being hit by a train at Leyland this afternoon.

The incident involved the 10.40am Glasgow South to Euston London train.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “There’s been a fatality. Someone has very sadly jumped in front of a train at Leyland.

“That happened about 1pm and clearly whenever that happens that causes disruption.

“We had to close down all the tracks on the West Coast Main Line while our staff, together with emergency services, went out to recover the situation.

“Services are beginning to get back to normal now.

“It took around ninety minutes for our staff and emergency services to recover the situation.”

National Rail reported on its website that there would be disruption between Preston and Bolton and Wigan North Western until 5.15pm.
