A vicious thug’s victim – who was left brain damaged after being knocked unconscious on a night out – has hit out at the jail sentence handed to his attacker.
New dad Martin Catterall, 30, spent two weeks in a coma after smashing his head on the pavement when trouble broke out as he and his rugby pals were celebrating the birth of his baby girl.
A judge in Preston sent Jonathan Fitzsimmons to prison for 14 months.
The 25-year-old has 15 previous convictions, mostly for drunken violence.
Later, Martin, who couldn’t even remember he had a daughter when he woke from his coma, blasted the sentence as “a bit lenient”.
He said: “My sentence started six months ago and I am going to have to live with what happened for the rest of my life.”
