A delivery driver was attacked in Leyland when a man made him stop the car in the middle of the road.
The 40-year-old victim was forced to stop his car in Slater Lane at around 1.30am on Sunday, January 18.
Leyland PC David Gaskill said: “This is an offence of racially or religiously aggravated assault with injury, where a man has stood in front of a vehicle, causing it to stop, and then the driver has been assaulted.
“When the victim stopped the car, the offender banged on the passenger window and the driver got out.
“There were some racist comments made by the offender and a woman who was with the man who stopped the car slapped the victim.
“The man then punched the victim in the head and punched his car windscreen, causing it to smash.
“The offenders then ran off.”
He added: “We think this was a totally random act. The man was out working as a delivery driver - I don’t think he was targeted.”
Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident.
The male offender is described as white, of heavy build, with short dark hair and wearing a red jacket and blue jeans.
The female is aged around 21-years-old, is white, and was wearing a black dress.
Call police on 101.
