The co-owner of a new Oriental restaurant has said that his latest business venture has brought him closer to his family.

Talking at the VIP launch event, Jack Catterall, 25, spoke out about his catering experiences at newly opened Little Hong, on Briers Brow, Wheelton, near Chorley.

To date, it has been quite the whirlwind adventure for him, since he has just returned from Melbourne after a six-month stint playing first team cricket for East Keilor Cricket Club.

Despite having no previous experience in the catering industry, he and his family decided to relaunch the former Wan’s Cantonese.

Along with his sister Holly, 23, mum Lorna, 45, and dad David, 52, Jack has been working hard to ensure he makes the restaurant, situated next to the Dresser’s Arms, a success.

Guests at the VIP launch event included Lancashire cricketer Tom Smith and Jeremy Gorick, the High Sheriff of Lancashire.

Jack said: “It was last November that we were given the opportunity, after the owner wanted to retire.

“We thought as a family it would be a fantastic opportunity to give it a go.

“After many sleepless nights, we are finally here.

“It has been a long road, but it’s been a great one, and a lot of fun. It has brought us closer together as a family.

“I hope you agree the decor we have achieved is beautiful.

“We have put a lot of hard work into the menu, and will be using fresh local produce.

“Long may it continue.”

The family, from Wheelton, have appointed head chef Jian Liu, formerly of award-winning Pacific Restaurant in Manchester’s China Town, as well as keeping on former team members of Wan’s Cantonese, Alan Yau and Lo Ping Gua.

The feedback from customer has, to date, been positive.

Jack’s mum Lorna said: “The response when we took it over was amazing.

“Everyone was supporting us, which was fantastic.

“We are going back to doing healthy Chinese – it isn’t going to be gloopy.

“It is a brand new experience to all of us.

“It has been stressful, but a good stress. And now we have seen the results, it has paid off.

“We wanted to produce a restaurant with a good atmosphere.”
