Withnell Fold won their derby against Whittle and Clayton-le-Woods in a game when the ball dominated the bat.

Whittle batted first and only three players – Chris McMahon (15), Khalid Sohail (13) and Faruk Chaddu (18) – reached double figures.

They were all dismissed by the impressive Graham Thompson, who finished with 5-28.

Graham Sharples (2-14) and Lee Fowler (3-10) also grabbed a piece of the action as Whittle were bowled out for 90.

In reply evergreen Terence Markham ripped out both openers Michael Atkinson Jr and Alan Grogan for two each, but that was as good as it got.

Anthony Beesley (20) and Chris Weetman (29) ensured a safe passage to a five-wicket win.

n Withnell Fold 2nds lost by five wickets to Freckleton 2nds.

Graham Green (55) held the innings together after a flurry of early Withnell wickets, with Michael Wiggans adding 22 at the end to see his team post 118-9.

In reply Wiggans dismissed both openers, but Freckleton closed on 119-5.

n Whittle’s second string lost by 70 runs against Kirkham & Wesham in Division Five of the Palace Shield.

Mark Duffy took 4-45 to put the brakes on Kirkham’s batsmen, who closed on 173-7.

In reply Sam Bolton top scored with 37 as Whittle were bowled out for 103.
