A shocking start to season as Brig are hit for seven

Bamber Bridge’s Evo-Stik League Division One North campaign got off to an awful start as a catastrophic second-half performance saw Neil Crowe’s side crushed by Droylsden.

Fernando Moke scored a hat-trick and their were goals from Kevin Leadbetter, Carlos Meakin, Darren Green and Ben Deegan too as Droylsden run riot.

Luke Atherton hit back for Brig in the second half.

Brig’s second half showing was at odds with a first half that could have gone either way.

Ally Waddecar was a menacing threat on both wings, while Stuart Vasey and Atherton went close, only to be denied by the Droylsden goalkeeper Russell Saunders.

Moke gave the Bloods the lead just before the half-hour mark and their lead was doubled through Leadbetter.

Meakin, Moke, Atherton and Green scored in a frantic 10 minutes before Moke grabbed his hat-trick with a close ranged header.

The visitors saved their best goal till last, substitute Deeganraninto acres of space on the right before daintily chipping Lee Dovey in the Brig net.

With ten minutes to go, Brig could have collapsed further, but, despite away supporters chants of ‘we want eight’, the home side improved in the last ten, with Vasey going close once again.

Brig were applauded off the pitch by their loyal home support at the full-time whistle, but it was a day to forget for Crowe’s side.
