Former North Ender sees red but Villa still slip up

Euxton Villa slipped to fifth place in the West Lancashire Premier Division after they lost 3-1 against lowly Eagley.

Mark McDonnell’s side found themselves two goals down at the interval as former Preston North End midfielder Simon Whaley and pacy forward Jack Horan got their names on the scoresheet.

Whaley was then given his marching orders for a second bookable offence before Dan Birkby pulled a goal back for Villa in the 63rd minute.

In a tense finale, Eagley were awarded a penalty and Horan stepped up to score his second of the game.

It was the home side who started the brighter as they sent in several high balls into the Euxton box causing a number of problems.

And they didn’t have to wait long to break the deadlock, qw a free-kick was awarded and Whaley stepped up to curl it past goalkeeper Macauley Scott.

Minutes later, Horan was played through on goal and he finished well too to double the lead.

Eagley started the second half well but were dealt a double blow as Whaley was sent off and then Birkby’s deflected effort brought Euxton back into the game.

Euxton toiled away but they failed to find the net and with minutes remaining,

Eagley were awarded a

spot-kick and up stepped Horan who confidently found the net.

n Coppull United were defeated 2-0 by Hesketh Bank.

Lewis Saunders and David Hogg were the scorers.

On Wednesday evening, Coppull will take on Slyne with Hest in the semi-final of the Lancashire FA Amateur Shield.

The kick off is 7.30pm at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.

On Saturday, Euxton Villa welcome Slyne with Hest while Charnock

Richard travel to Longridge Town.

Coppull are without a fixture.
