Figure skater Stacey Kemp has been selected to represent Great Britain at the ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2012.

Kemp, 23, from Clayton -le-Woods, who trains in Florida, is set to compete against Europe’s best skaters in the Pairs events which take place at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield this week.

The Europeans have two days of preliminary competition before the battle for the Championship title commenced yesterday.

The ex-Leyland St Mary’s Catholic Technology pupil Kemp and her partner, David King (27) from Cumbria, will go directly into Wednesday’s action to compete for the Pairs title.

Kemp and King came eighth in last year’s Europeans in Bern, Switzerland but she is looking forward to this year’s Championship in her home country.

She said: “I’m honoured to have been selected to compete for Great Britain on home soil in front of our own fans at this year’s Europeans.

“It’s going to be an amazing experience and hopefully one David and I will never forget.

“To get a personal best score would be amazing, but that’s up to the judges.

“It’s the first major Championships we have competed in at home so it’s definitely something which will stand out in my skating career.

“It is something that a lot of skaters will never be lucky enough to experience.”

The ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2012 will see 200 elite international skaters from 39 countries descend on Sheffield to compete in front of enthusiastic crowds at the Motorpoint Arena, in Ladies, Men, Pairs and Dance disciplines.
