Leyland and Chorley Ladies made it two wins from two after promotion to the Lancashire Central Women’s Hockey League Premier Division.

The locals claimed a 4-0 victory at Springfields Ladies 3rds at UCLan Sports Arena with a brace from Sarah Winstanley, and further goals from Becca Halsall and Marie Meagher.

Leyland and Chorley started the match with the first push, and began to confidently move the ball around the pitch.

Early pressure was put on the Springfields defence, and a great move across the pitch led to the first goal of the game on eight minutes, with captain Sarah King making a fantastic pass across the D to Winstanley, who managed to scramble the ball past the Springfields keeper.

Leyland were eventually rewarded for their hard work with their second goal. Halsall intercepted a Springfields hit out, the ball making its way to King, and then on to Winstanley who confidently finished.

Into the second half, after 50 minutes, Leyland it 3-0, with King making an intercept and gaining her third assist of the match, pinging the ball across to Halsall, who smashed it past the keeper.

And a minute later the locals added a fourth as centre back Kat Wright intercepted a loose ball, and laid it off to player of the match Rachel Hindley. Hindley got the ball up to Hutchinson, who dummied the defence, and Meagher finished expertly.

Leyland seconds also won 4-0, at home to Lancaster fourths. The first goal came on 11 miniutes as Penny Robb guided the ball to Anna Jones, who slipped it across for Joanne Hindley to score.

Then after a third short corner in quick succession ended in Robb forcing a high save, the ball was quickly moved from Alison Rigby to Paula Thornton, down the wing to AK Crockett, and in to the D for Robb to make it 2-0.

Eight minutes into the second half, Hayley Billington drove into the D, slapping it across the goal mouth for Anna Jones to sink into the net.

And Leyland added a fourth with six minutes left through player of the match Lauren Pickup.

The ladies’ third team lost 2-0 at Lancaster Nomads – a result which didn’t reflect the performance.

Lorraine Edwards and Maddy Price both went close, before, at the other end, a short corner produced a fantastic save by keeper Paula Holt-Rogers.

In the second half, Lancaster scored a goal from a long corner, and added a second from a short corner.

Leyland continued to battle to the last minute without reward.

Player of the match was AnnMarie McMahon.

Leyland and Chorley’s men’s first team won 4-1 against Didsbury Northern with two goals each from Simon Myers and Robbie Unsworth, while the seconds went down 2-1 to Blackpool seconds.

The third team lost 13-0 against Rochdale seconds, with Tim Sullivan man of the match.
