A Leyland high school is toasting the efforts of their pupils on the sporting field at a national level.
Balshaw’s High School pupil Holly Jackson, year nine, who swims for Wigan BEST team has achieved her first ever National Qualifying Time to compete in the British Championships to be held in London on 10th March.
The event will double as the Olympic Trial for selection to the British Team for London 2012 and will be the first event to be held in the Olympics Pool.
She produced a qualifying time of 28.61 seconds with freestyle.
Meanwhile, the Church Road school’s head boy Sandy Kelly runs with Preston Harriers and ran in the recent South Ribble Cross Country.
He has qualified for English Schools and will represent Lancashire.
Sandy manages to fit all of this in as well as being Head Boy at the School.
Headteacher Jo Venn said, “I am delighted that both Holly and Sandy are ‘aiming at excellence’. They are superb role models for younger pupils and we wish them success in the next stage.”
Balshaws’ has a reputation for producing some of the area’s top talent with footballers Phil Jones and Clarke Carlisle as well as netball star Emma Dovey and rugby league player Chris Tuson.
