Families are invited down to Worden Park in Leyland to enjoy a series of outdoor theatre shows this summer.

Every week, Pendle Productions’ the Storytellers Theatre Company, supported by South Ribble Council, are rolling into town with their season of family-friendly theatre productions.

This year is the 30th anniversary of Pendle Productions and to celebrate they have put together a season of shows that brings something new, as well as reviving some of their most popular productions.

Setting up near the Arts and Crafts Centre, the actors are set to put on a variety of shows, which kicked off with Martha the Magical Cat.

On Monday, August 3, it’s a tale of life on the riverbank in the ever-popular Wind in the Willows.

Toad takes to the road and causes havoc in this madcap musical adventure with Badger, Ratty and Mole.

And who can fail to be delighted by Frances Hodgson Burnett’s magical The Secret Garden on August 10?

This production introduces Mary Lennox and takes us from the heat of India to the West Yorkshire Moors as Mary discovers all the delights of the gardens and meets a few unexpected guests at Misselthwaite Manor.

Pinocchio, set for August 17, is the penultimate show of the season starting in Geppetto’s little workshop before following the wooden puppet’s many adventures in his quest to become a real boy.

The season is finished in real style by celebrating the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s literary masterpiece Alice in Wonderland on August 24, in this musical adventure that will have people dancing on the lawns and clapping along at the same time.

Pendle’s artistic director, Tim Lince, said: “Performing at Worden Park is like coming home. The actors have always commented on how fantastic the audiences are in Leyland.”

Families are encouraged to take picnics for the occasion, which will be staged under a covered marquee if the weather doesn’t look too good.

Individual tickets are £7 for children and adults, but one adult goes free with a family ticket of at least two children (£14). A season family ticket can be bought for £60.

Tickets can be booked at or ordered from the box office on 0800 7880526.
