I’ve travelled past the a number of times and always wondered what it was like.

I’ve asked many people what this restaurant is like and have never had a bad response.

So, when looking for somewhere to review, I thought I should finally make a visit to the Italian restaurant on Preston Road.

The eatery is in Standish, a stone’s throw away from the Coppull border.

As always, I opted to book a table as it was a Friday night.

Myself and Kerri were the two eating and as we entered the restaurant, we were politely asked to wait in the bar area.

It was a warm welcome and the bar area was very relaxed.

In only a matter of seconds we were asked what we would like to drink, I ordered a pint of Peroni and Kerri had a half.

As we waited for our table we took time to look at the menu.

There was plenty of choice in the starter and main course sections.

After a short wait we were shown to our table and our orders were taken.

For starters, we ordered calamari rings and Arancini Ragu along with a garlic bread with cheese.

The Arancini Ragu was Italian rice balls, deep fried with meat and cheese inside.

We didn’t really know what to expect but we both enjoyed them.

They were well cooked and packed with flavour, and with each bite we were met with a crunch.

The calamari was excellent, all too often it can be over or under cooked and be rubbery.

But in a crunchy golden batter, there was plenty of taste and I’d definitely order it again.

The garlic bread with cheese was another favourite, there was plenty of cheese, just the way we like it.

For the main courses, Kerri had a pizza, which consisted of salami, peppers and chilli while I ordered the Vulcano pizza.

We also ordered a portion of home made chips.

Kerri enjoyed her pizza, there was plenty of cheese and it came packed with toppings.

The Vulcano pizza came with a catch, should I eat it all, I would appear on the wall of fame.

Automatically I was lured in by the challenge but when it was brought to me, I soon regretted my decision.

The Vulcano, as expected, came shaped like a volcano.

In it was bolognese, mozzarella, meat balls and salami.

As I tucked into all I uncovered was more and more meat, along with cheese and a pizza base. For all my effort I couldn’t defeat it.

But the dish was good and next time, I don’t think I’ll attempt the challenge.

The home made chips were crispy and fluffy inside.

During the meal, we both ordered extra drinks plus a latte once we had finished.

Now, I’ve eaten at the Olive Garden I can happily recommend it to all.

The restaurant had an atmosphere throughout the night and we’ll definitely be returning.

The bill came to £57.75.
